Cure an Ear Infection Without the Doctor

When my oldest son was a toddler, he had ear infections all of the time.  It was always in both ears and very painful.  I hated giving him so many antibiotics but didn’t think I had a choice.  After switching to a new pediatrician I was told to try putting garlic oil in his ear.  The garlic will kill the bacteria and the warm oil is soothing to a painful ear.  I wasn’t sure if I wanted to try this or not, but I trusted our doctor and figured he knows better than me.  I began doing research online and found that a lot of people use garlic oil and it seems to have worked for them.  My youngest son has never had to go to the doctor for an ear infection, not because he hasn’t had one, but because the garlic oil will heal his ear(s) in about a day.

Sounds interesting, doesn’t it?!  Well it’s easy to make as well, here’s all you need to do:

Gather Supplies:

  • 2 cloves of Garlic (peeled and crushed or chopped)
  • 1/2 cup Olive Oil
  • Glass Jar with lid
  • Microwave safe bowl

1.   Combine garlic and olive oil the microwave safe bowl.

2.   Heat for 30 seconds to a minute, until oil is hot.

3.   Remove bowl from microwave and transfer into the glass jar.

4.  Allow to cool to room temperature.

5.  Place a few drops in the sore ear with a medicine dropper, syringe or cotton swab.

I like to wait until my kids are asleep and turn them so the hurt ear is in the air.  I use an old medicine dropper and put a few drops of the oil in their hurt ear.  Keep an eye on them for a few minutes to ensure they don’t roll over and lose all the oil before it can really get in and help.  This mixture will last for about a week or so, after that you will need to throw it out and make a new batch.  You want to ensure you don’t get bad bacteria growing in the oil.  I have never had to use this oil more than once though, one nap and the infection is gone.
