Earache is a common health disorder for both adults and children. There are two types of ear infections. The most common infection in ear occurs in [otitis extrema] outer ear, in the middle ear [otitis media]. The common infection in outer ear is the skin infection and infection in the outer ear canal, this particular infection often occurs mainly with the swimmers after swimming. It is thus relevantly known as swimmer’s ear.

The infection in the middle ear is common found in the newborns up to 2 years of their age, but this kind of infection is not at all rare with elder people. The infection in the middle ear is mostly seen in eardrum and in the middle ear.

The most common cause of infection in outer ear [otitis extrema] is trapped moisture, and minor injury in the ear canal. In case of middle ear [otitis media] infection, the main cause of infection stands for bacterial infection behind the eardrum in the middle ear.

Most often this kind of bacterial infection is observed after an upper respiratory track infection or after a severe cold infliction in a human body.

The other common causes which initiate to set ear infections are allergies, excessive exposure to passive smoking, feeding by bottle [in case of children], genetic history of ear infection, and certain intricate malformation of neck and head area.

Middle ear infection happens due to infection in the ear drum. If moisture is trapped in Eustachian tube and by any chance the moisture becomes infected by bacteria, the problem causes ear infection in middle ear.

In case of an outer ear infection, there are some common symptoms. The whole event is painful and irritating, sometimes seen with thick drainage from ear; if the ear is touched or pulled, the intensity of earache increases; rather than pain, a feeling of tingling, hearing loss, dullness of hearing sensation, inflammation of the ear, a sensation of hearing buzzing sound in ear are experienced.

In case the infection persists in middle ear, the main symptoms are pain and irritation in the ear. The patient may run with slight or medium high fever; buzzing sensation in the ear, sensing some hearing discomfort and in some cases total temporary hearing loss can be observed as prevalent symptoms of this disorder.

In case of children, poor feeding, poor sleeping, irritation, and vomiting are the common additional cause for ear infection.

If the affected patient suffers from ear pain lasted for more than 2 hours with fever or the affected patient tends to suffer from acute hear loss, it is better to contact doctor immediately. In case of children and infants immediate contact to pediatrician in the first occurrence of symptoms will surely help to sort out the matter with instant effect.
