Home remedies for curing swimmer’s ear otitis externa

Swimmer’s ear , which is also known as otitis externa is such a type of disease in which the external ear or the ear canal becomes infected and inflamed. This disease is mainly caused because of maximum exposure to water. The moisture contained in the water penetrates in the ear, making the skin soft and wrinkled. As a result of this bacteria and fungi which are contained in the contaminated water breaks the ear barrier and enters in the skin causing swimmer’s ear.

Symptoms

Among various symptoms of the disease the most common are- the ear becomes itchy and painful, decrease in hearing activities, yellowish discharge from ear, swelling of the ear and the neck, outer skin becomes sore etc.

Causes

The general causes of the swimmer’s are- contaminated water, cleaning the ear with nails, buds etc which causes harm to the tissues inside the ear. Some chemicals such as hair dyes, shampoos, gels etc may get inside the ear and cause infection. Diabetes can also cause swimmer’s ear. If the ear canal is narrow then it retains the water causing the disease. Living in a very damp and unhygienic environment may also cause the disease.

Simple home remedies

Vinegar can be used to get relief from the ear pain. A few drops of vinegar can be put in the ear and kept it for about five minutes then finally drain the solution out of the ear. This should be done two to three times daily.

If water clogs in the ear, then apple cider vinegar diluted in equal parts with water or alcohol can be used to prevent harmful bacteria to form inside the ear.

A few drops of baby oil can be put in the ear using a dropper and then use a cotton to prevent the oil from draining back
